Reedville Independence Day events and America 250 celebrations are on tap for July 3rd, 4th and 5th, organized by the Reedville Fishermen's Museum. Village residents usually go all-out decorating for the festivities, which are designed for all ages.
Friday July 3rd:
9 a.m.-1 p.m.: 5k packet pickup for registrants, Festival Halle, 177 Main St.
5:30 p.m.: Golf cart parade and competition. Entry fee $10. Meet and line up at Festival Halle at 4:45 p.m. to receive a number to display on your cart. Route is from Festival Halle along Main Street to the end, then back to the museum parking lot. Award categories: creativity, overall theme, community spirit, bonus individuals in costume and music.
After the parade: Pavilion party on the museum campus with music, dancing and food. No coolers or outside food please; food and beverages will be sold.
Saturday July 4th:
6:30-8 a.m.: 5k packet pickup for registrants, Festival Halle, 177 Main St.
10 a.m.: kids activities in the pavilion on the museum campus.
10:45 a.m.: Fairfields Volunteer Fire Department "hose down" on the museum campus. Water sprayed from firetrucks will cool down the kids.
11 a.m.: Food and beverage sales in the pavilion.
3 p.m.: Main Street parade. No entry fee; line up at Roseland Cemetery at the entrance to town. Sponsored by the Fairfields Volunteer Fire Department.
9 p.m.: Fireworks at the Stack.
Sunday July 5th:
3 p.m. Festival Halle: Reedville Festival Chorale Singers and announcement of art and essay contest winners. In honor of the America 250 celebration, the museum and Northumberland County schools asked students to use their writing and artistic talents to focus on themes found in the Preamble of the Declaration of Independence. Prizes will be awarded for each grade level.

Summer is here, so it's time to book a sailing cruise on the historic skipjack Claud W. Somers.
The Somers, built in 1911, underwent an extensive refit over the winter and is now back at its home dock at the Reedville Fishermen's Museum, 504 Main St.
Sail dates are Saturdays, July 11th and 25th, August 8th and 22nd, September 12th and 26th, and October 10th and 24th. The Somers leaves the museum dock at 10 a.m. and returns to the dock at noon.
Tickets cost $30 for museum members or $35 for non-members. Children age 10 and up are welcome. The boat carries up to 15 passengers per sail. The boat also can be booked for charters.
Ticket-holders can enter and tour the museum at no extra charge.
